| | | | | Extra info | Menken Melk originated in 1925 when Leen Menken founded a milk business in Oegstgeest . Milk was delivered by horse and cart in 16 districts. Due to the great success of the company, Menken started making whipped cream, porridge and yogurt. When the Second World War broke out, the standardization decision followed . The milk had to meet certain requirements (such as the fat content) and dairy farmers could no longer buy it directly from the dairy farmer. Unlike fellow milk traders' competitors, Menken obtained a license to process milk.
After the war, the dairy grew into a wholesaler and took over eighteen competitors. Several more mergers with other dairy companies followed.
Menken also started in the soft drink industry. It had a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Soest , and the Liko factory in Bodegraven . At that time, the company had about three hundred employees.
Merged with De Landbouw of Noordwijkerhout in 1970 to become Menken-Landbouw in Wassenaar |
