| | | | | Extra info | The Saxton Bottling Company was founded in 1919 by Charles T. Benner and began with seven employees; five men and two women. It started as a wholesale business in candy and bottled goods. The first building was a small one-story affair, but from it came candy and soda pop to supply most of the Broad Top region. In 1920, the building burned and a new two-story one was erected. Several times since, the plant was enlarged by Benner, and in the 1940s, it was one of the most modern of its kind. The first soda bottles produced were Whistle and Moxie. As the company grew larger in the early 1940s, they were able to get a hold of national brands such as Pepsi, 7-UP, Orange Crush, and Dr. Pepper. In the late 1940s, Benner created his own brand of soda called Snow White. Snow White was an orange, red, and grape drink. It was made up until 1976. The Saxton Company also had a soda plant in Lewistown, PA andCumberland, MD. |
