In April of 1896, Ernest Tailliez, brewer in Saint-Quentin, founded La Société Anonyme de la Grande Brasserie Coopérative de Saint-Quentin. In 1898 he built a new industrial plant, resulting in the closure of the initial site located at the corner of Charlevoix and Lignières. During the First World War, production tools were either removed or destroyed. The plant was restarted in February 1921.
In the early 1950s, the brewery took the name, Brasserie du Nain Alsace, whose motto was "My strength is in the quality." Along with the beer, it also produced soft drinks such as syrups and sodas. Led by Joseph and Louis Armbrust in the 1960s, the brewery was one of the last two of Saint-Quentin, alongside the Brasserie Alsacienne des Deux Cigognes. The company specialized in the manufacture of fine beers packaged in small bottles. The brewery closed its doors permanently in November, 1979. The plant was destroyed in 1992 to make way for a series of public housing. What remains is the former offices, converted into student housing and the factory chimney standing in the center of the courtyard formed by the buildings. |
