He received a patent for his embossed bottles in 1876. His sons, William and Frank, received their pharmacy degrees from the same college and joined their father in the business. The firm became the Fetters Bros. Drug Store in 1883. Benjamin Fetters passed away in 1886 at age 60 and shortly after that his son, William, took control of the business. William A. Fetters early crown top bottles were embossed with “Fetters Magnesia” and the later ones with “Fetters Laxative”. William passed away in 1916. The Philadelphia Magnesia Company obtained the rights to the “William A. Fetters Company” name and continued to bottle the laxative through the 1930’s. |
