Brewer/bottler #7863 | | | | | | | | | | Extra info | The founder of the brewery in Stramproy was Michael Maes, who had a farm in Tungelroy the Nelenhof in the 19th century. In 1867 he bought the Geulenhof in Stramproy with the accompanying Brouwerij de Kroon. In 1880, he taught Jean Maes of the brewery Familie Snieders in Dommelen. Jean Maes brewed there the Stramproyer Dobbel, a fermented Oudbier that found a big sales across the border around Stramproy, Hasselt and even Brussels.
The First World War was doubly tough for the brewery because of lack of raw materials and the difficulties at the border, leaving many customers were lost.
The Second World War was passed well through special arrangements were made for breweries.
In 1956 Jan and Wim Maes were, Commercial and Technical Director, both trained of brewing. These are when the brewery was closed the brewery continued until July 1, 1974, and was acquired by Cristal Alken from Belgium. |
