Calderon), 1895 is stated as the founding date of the brewery: "Brouwer Gustave Verschueren from Heffen takes over the Brasserie de l'Ancre in Antwerp at the Duinstraat, his sister Marie Verschueren marries Joseph Matthieu whose brewery / bottling of lemonades was the Frisca Company in the Deurnebaan in Merksem. In 1925, Brasserie de l'Ancre is inactive, after the death of Joseph Matthieu his widow enters into a business deal with her brother: the brewing remains in Antwerp on the Duinstraat and the bottling will take place at the Deurnebaan in Merksem, in 1928 a name change will be made to Etablissements Matthieu and from 1940 onwards "Brouwerij-Mouterij" will be put in. Closed in 1964.
